The Story of Tomato Glasses

‘TOMATO GLASSES is a story about the love of a parent for their child and the extremes they have gone to, to find the perfect solution.’

Sungjoon Kim, who is the Founder and CEO, began to problem solve when his young son Sanguk was diagnosed with an eye condition. The choice of frames on the market was very limited, for example frames with nose pads were only available in metal. Due to the discomfort and weight, Sanguk did not wear his glasses, and his condition worsened.

Sungjoon was compelled to create a lightweight and comfortable frame for his son, and that’s how Tomato Glasses began. Frames that are made to fit the youngest family member.

 

 

What glasses are best for babies?

If an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist concludes that your baby needs glasses, it is essential to respond with urgency, so that their vision can be corrected immediately. If you do not follow the advice, there may be further issues down the track. Another advantage of Tomato Glasses also offer headbands/straps for babies, which secures the fit and ensures the glasses don’t fall off.

As previously mentioned in our blog post these are the stages that your baby is on track with their vision:

• 3 months, a babies eyes should focus and follow objects.
• 5 months, a baby develops depth perception.
• 9 months, babies eye colour has almost reached its full pigmentation (final eye colour)

Choosing a frame is something at Adelaide City Optometrist, that we believe should be an enjoyable and intentional experience, for all ages. Whilst recommending your child a frame we take into consideration:

– How your child fits the frame, including bridge width, lens width, arm width. The better the fit = more comfortable. If their frame is too big, or too small, they will experience discomfort and may not wear their glasses.

-High quality is essential, as children are active and can be rough with glasses.

-Made with appropriate, high quality materials, such as Acetate, as it is a more robust option (for children) compared to metal. Acetate is a light weight material that is durable.
