New Optometrist: Loucia Calder

We are excited to announce that we have a new optometrist, Loucia Calder, working with us at ACO a few days a week! Here is a bit about Loucia to introduce her to the team.

A bit about you

Loucia has over 22 years of experience in optometry an the eye care field. She also spends one day a week in a multi-disciplinary setting with a group of ophthalmologists providing pre and post operative care to patients. She graduated from her optometry degree in 2002.

In her spare time, Loucia enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, cooking, baking, gardening, arts and crafts, music, theatre and dancing. As a “foodie” she also enjoys going out for a nice meal with family and friends and having a cocktail (or two!), as well as spending time with her three beautiful children. Her favourite food is any Asian cuisine, but her ultimate favourite is Thai, followed by Modern Australian, French, Italian and Spanish. She is also a huge dessert buff!

What are your qualifications/certifications?

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Optometry) (QUT) and Grade Certificate of Ocular Therapeutics (UNSW)
  • Member of the Optometry Association (SA/VIC Division)
  • Member of the Optometry State Advisory Board for SA/VIC Division

What inspired you to become an Optometrist?

Towards the end of my schooling, I had trouble seeing the black board. Coincidentally, we had just learnt about the eye in science and I was fascinated that this sensory organ allowed us to ‘see’ and ‘interpret the world’. Shortly afterwards, I went to have my eyes tested and that confirmed my interest in the eyes. Not long after that I had work experience in Optometry. One thing led to another and here I am, helping others to see their best!

What do you love about being an Optometrist?

I love being able to help others on a day-to-day basis – whether that is helping them to see their best or to answer questions about their eyes, concerns and/or talk about the best options available to them in their eye care plan and eye care solutions. This could include looking at options that enhance or compliment their lifestyle needs, whether that be new glasses/contact lenses, eye surgery (if they are eligible/suitable) prism in their glasses or assisting them with solutions to treat their dry eyes, myopia, low vision etc.

Loucia provides a range of eye care services and has keen interest in all aspects of optometry, including the following:

  • General Eye Examinations
  • Dry Eye Assessments and Management
  • Therapeutic Care
  • Low Vision
  • Contact Lenses
  • Kids Vision
  • Myopia Management
  • Neuro-ophthalmic and prismatic work
  • Glaucoma and Diabetic examinations

Loucia is available for appointments Tuesdays and Thursdays. Book appointment here.
