For our last of the Home is on Hutt street series this year, we went a few doors down to visit the expert in classic menswear, Ivan from Hobo Menswear!
Ivan is known for his exceptional service and style on Hutt street. With brands such as Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, Ted Baker, and Bugatti, it’s the perfect place to pick up a new suit or outfit for those more formal occasions, and even some casual too.
He is very well known across this strip of the city and has extensive and loyal clientele visit him, due to his consistent customer service.
Hobo Menswear isn’t like other menswear stores. This is a boutique shop with items unique to Ivan’s store, whether they have been imported for his clientele or it has been picked out to stand out from the crowd.
Some of the items you’ll find in Ivan’s store include: Suits, blazers, shorts, shirts, jeans, jumpers, swimwear and more. There are also a selection of shoes and accessories.

My name is Ivan, I own Hobo Menswear on Hutt Street. Some of my hobbies include cooking and playing golf, when I have the time.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE RETAIL INDUSTRY?
I opened Hobo Menswear 22 years ago. Initially, it wasn’t intentional for me to be in the retail industry, however, I found the opportunity whilst I was working in another industry and I just went for it. Prior to Hobo Menswear I did have an interest in fashion, so it just seemed right to go for it and here we are two decades later!
FAVOURITE THING ABOUT OWNING HOBO MENSWEAR?
The best thing about this business is keeping up with the clientele and their demands. There is nothing worse than the client being bored of the current stock or fashion that they have seen. It is great to encourage them to try things that they wouldn’t usually and keep an open mind. There is always something new to do and try. Also, its great to have so many loyal and great customers come in. It makes the work more enjoyable.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR HUTT STREET?
I think Hutt street could evolve more and re-invent itself. There are a lot of quality businesses along this strip but the public are still yet to discover it or make it a frequent place to visit for food, fashion and local amenities.
