The Home is on Hutt Street series is back, and in February we focused on a local fave, Coffylosophy.
Coffylosophy is an award-winning cafe situated near the corner of Hutt Street and Halifax Street. Serving a variety of coffees, beverages, all-day meals, breakfast, sandwiches, salads, burgers, super-foods and sweet treats.
Holds a Winner of the City Award 2020 for the Best Coffee Spot in Adelaide.
A bustling little spot, it is always filled to the brim with customers and their canine companions. (Especially in the mornings!) Coffylosophy is well-known for top notch coffee, superb customer service and the friendly vibe it gives off. We were fortunate enough to have the chance to talk to the owner, Harsh, about his business and how he enjoys being on Hutt Street.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RUNNING THIS BUSINESS?
I have been running this business for 7 years now.
WHY DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS?
To be content. I also took a leap of faith as it felt like the right thing to do. You don’t really know until you try. It helps that I’m a people person so as long as it involved that, I’m happy.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS ABOUT OWNING/WORKING IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY?
The vibes, the people, the food and being able to put smiles on people’s faces. At the end of the day, it is about making the people happy and if they leave with a smile on their face, then we have done our job right.

Ooh this is a tough one, there are a few dishes that I would recommend trying:
- Smashed avocado and haloumi
- Jerk haloumi burger
- Crunchy asian salad

ANY FUNNY/HEART-WARMING EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE HAD WHILST WORKING HERE?
Every customer stands out in their own way. It’s nice to have conversations with so many different people and meet many kids and dogs (a lot of of dogs!)
WHAT TYPE OF EXPERIENCE DO YOU WANT YOUR CUSTOMER TO HAVE AT COFFYLOSOPHY?
A memorable experience would be great. And a reason to come back a second, third, fourth time.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT HUTT STREET?
Hutt Street is like a community or village in the city. It has a great mix of commercial and residential throughout the suburb. (Another plus is that it has parking!) Everyone seems to work as a family as well. The businesses get along and help each other out, and everyone is really friendly. It creates a vibe that isn’t common amongst many suburbs but it is certainly great to be a part of.
