Darcie Brown: A Local Legend

  • by: Adelaide City Optometrist
  • July 14, 2023

Australian’s are a proud people. And we couldn’t be prouder to have the cricketing prodigy, Darcie Brown, as our own in SA.

ACO have had the honour of seeing Darcie for years now, and continue to provide high quality testing to make sure her eye health is the best it can be on the field. As Darcie has already reached an incredible level in her career (at the young age of 20!) we had to ask her a few questions in-relation to her profession.

1. What age did you first play cricket?

I was lucky enough to be contracted to the South Australian Scorpions at 16.

2. What age did you know that you wanted to play cricket (or sport’s) professionally?

I started at Milo cricket level as a young kid at maybe 6 or 7. But then played actual games at around 10 years old.

3. Who did you idolise in cricket? And who do you idolise now?

Probably Mitchell Johnson and probably still do. Although I didn’t watch a whole lot of cricket growing up.

4. How often do you train?

Depends on what time of year it is. When we aren’t playing games we probably train 3-6 times a week. In season as much as you need to be ready for the games. Sometimes we have mid-week games so it usually can change. We try to have at least one training in-between games.

5. What are some of your favourite moments from your career so far?

There are many… making debut for Australia, playing cricket with my whole family and winning T20. ODI World Cups and commonwealth games.

6. What are your hobbies outside of cricket?

I like to go on walks with my dog or go kick the footy around with my family or friends. I like to watch movies, paint by colour canvas and hanging out with family and friends.

7. What qualities should a sportsperson have?

They should always be kind, competitive, driven and resilient as well as a high enjoyment level in the sport they are involved in.

8. If you weren’t playing cricket professionally, what would you do instead?

I would probably still be living in my home town of Kapunda, working at the local school or going into the Barossa for vintage, then travelling.

9.  What are some tips or tricks that make cricket easier to understand?

Tricky one! I think if you go and watch a T20 game with someone that knows how cricket works and ask them questions whenever you don’t understand what’s going on. Or just think of it as the other team has to score as many runs as the other team without running out of time or losing 10 wickets.

10. Favourite place to go for a meal after a game?

A good burrito/burrito bowl is my favourite thing to have after a day in the field.

We cannot wait to see where Darcie goes in her professional career, and will be supporting her along the way.
