Transition Contact Lenses; The Contact Lens That Knows Light
Do you hate that feeling of having to squint whenever you are exposed to harsh light? Thanks to Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J’s) newly released ACUVUE® Oasys with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™, you may not have to.
J&J’s most innovative contact lens yet seamlessly adapts to changing light conditions to help provide all-day soothing vision. The lens also offers the highest level of UV protection available in contact lenses, which includes more than 99% protection against UVA rays, and 100% protection against UVB rays. Plus, it takes less than a minute for the lens to darken, and it fades back to clear within 90 seconds after exposure to sunlight. Available as a two-weekly replaceable lens, it continuously adapts from clear to dark and vice versa. This allows your eyes to adapt to changing light conditions more effectively than they could on their own.
Every day, we are exposed to sunlight, UV and blue light. Research found that almost 2 in 3 people complain about light bothering them, which is where the concept of ACUVUE Oasys with Transitions originated. This lens dynamically filters and reduces exposure to bright light, both indoors and outdoors, plus it helps to filter out blue light.
But what does this mean for you? Transition contact lenses significantly reduce halos at night, and provide crisp, clear vision in all conditions.
TIME Magazine has also recognised ACUVUE Oasys with Transitions as one of the best inventions of 2018.
Transition Contact Lenses – The FAQs
How will it look on my eye? Does it get dark?
The transition contact lens does darken when activated by UV and/or HEV light. But keep in mind, it was specifically designed to provide personal benefits while minimising the appearance of your eye. While outdoors, the activation level is constantly changing in response to the light conditions. What this means is that in most situations, the lens isn’t in its darkest state. Plus, it takes less than 90 seconds for the lens to transition back to clear once you are inside.
Is the lens a sunglass replacement?
ACUVUE Oasys with Transitions is not intended to be used as a substitute for sunglasses. While it does provide UV protection to the area of eye it covers, other parts of the eye and surrounding areas remain exposed to UV rays. Therefore, it can be worn with non-prescription sunglasses, as sunglasses help to protect the entire eye and area surrounding it.
Do the lenses activate in indoor light or only outdoor UV light?
The lens activates in both indoor and UV light. Even when the lens appears clear, it is working and adapting to different light conditions.
Is this contact lens right for me?
Prior to its release, it was thought that this lens would be best suited to outdoor athletes because of the “sunglass” aspect of the transition lens. However, over time, its ability to block HEV light from digital devices and glare from headlights has become more desirable. J&J now believe it is hard to find someone who is not a candidate for this lens.
Is it available as a daily disposable lens?
Currently, this transition contact lens is only available as a two-weekly replacement lens. It is available in a 6 pack (3 months supply).
What is the available power range?
