In this blog, we go through a variety of questions most commonly asked about Blephadex and how to tell if it’s the right product for you.

WHAT IS BLEPHADEX AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Blephadex is a formula of natural ingredients, tea tree oil, and coconut oil specifically designed for eye care. The mixture of these two ingredients together forms the perfect blend to help gently care for your lashes, eyelids, and face.

WHY HAVE I BEEN RECOMMENDED BLEPHADEX?

Blephadex is recommended to treat a variety of eye conditions. However, the most common of these are Blepharitis and treating Demodex or eyelash mites. Blepharitis is a condition in which the patient develops dry, red, itchy or burning eyes, sometimes with skin flaking. Blepharitis acts as a substitute for drops for eyes to treat the problem.

Demodex mites or eyelash mites or small mites which live on or around hair molecules. They can affect all areas of our body but are most commonly noticed in our eyes due to the disruption they can cause to our sight/eye health. Blephadex treats eyelash mites by clearing the hair follicles around the eyes and with it any mites that might be there.

DO I NEED A PRESCRIPTION TO BUY BLEPHADEX?

Blephadex is an over the counter solution and is available in 2 main forms; a foam cleanser and wipes with variations of the two. Blephadex is most commonly used to relieve symptoms caused by blepharitis or dry eye. Blephadex is also commonly used to relieve blurry, light sensitivity, itching/burning sensations, swollen eyes, fatigued eyes, and watery eyes.

DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING BEFORE I START USING BLEPHADEX?

It is important to only use Blephadex on a clean, debris-free area. Sometimes we can have dead skin cells build up and debris formation around our eyes/oil glands and this must be removed before beginning to use Blephadex. If Blephadex has been suggested to you by your eye specialist, you will be informed if your eye area needs to be cleaned before use.

If wanting to try cleaning your eye are at home, we recommend gently rinsing with warm water, and holding a warm compress to the area to loosen the debris before cleaning with your Blephadex cleansing foam or wipes.

If you’re unsure about whether your eyes are safe to use Blephadex on, book an appointment with us today to get your lids back to normal and continue cleaning with Blephadex.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD DISCUSS WITH A PROFESSIONAL BEFORE I START USING BLEPHADEX?

Before using Blephadex, your eye specialist should be aware of any issues you have with eye makeup or whether you use false eyelashes. This along with other health factors will determine their decision on whether it’s the right solution for you.

HOW DO I PICK IF I SHOULD USE BLEPHADEX EYELID WIPES OR BLEPHADEX EYE FOAM?

The Belphadex foam and wipes use the same solution meaning the products are chemically the same, just available in 2 formations for the user’s preference. We find that the Blephadex wipes are preferred by females as they double action as makeup remover whilst cleaning your eyes.

Blephadex foam is better for cleaning the smaller and more difficult to reach places. We find elderly clients prefer Blephadex foam is can be easier to use than disposable wipes.

IS BLEPHADEX OKAY FOR CHILDREN?

If your child has been recommended Blephadex it should be treated like any other cream for children. If they have any known allergies be sure to check the back of the bottle for ingredients and complete a patch test using the substance before applying to their eyes.
